Collage
As I began my project I want to research the different
aspects of war, from the atrocities that took place, to the people that
committed them.
I plan on focusing on the negativity that war displays
rather then the positive characteristics of it as I find that negativity
becomes a much stronger image and is more enticing.
I began with a variety of different collages to as I like to
show my research in the subject in a more aesthetically pleasing way, integrating
different mediums, qualities and materials, such as drawing and painting.
I used imagery from a variety of different sources such as
newspapers, magazines, photocopies and some images from the internet, all of
which had reference to the chosen subject, including several different
materials such as metal, different types of paper and other miscellaneous
items.
After the initial collages, where I have placed as much
information as possible, I have categorised them by subject, for instance,
child evacuation, public bombings, native warfare, the American civil war, and
the pros and cons of the world wars.
In the collage based on the American civil war, I have
produced a drawing of the late American president, Abraham Lincoln.
During the last project, I tried a new technique, which I
have grown fond of, using intricate line work, and adding much more detail to
the piece then I would usually, I have used the same method to produce the
Lincoln piece.
The drawing is done on a camel toned envelope, I had
initially intended to later add highlights to the image as well as the initial
shading, the envelope was a great mid tone to base it on, however, after I had
finished, the initial line work, I found the image to be successful enough, as
it is and I didn’t want to risk adding unneeded to the work.
