Evaluation

As I progressed through my project I used the same specialist subject as ways, painting and drawing. I like to change the way I work slightly as I progress, changing certain techniques and adjusting the way I would have done something, I do this to see how I can develop as an artist. This is also developed by the artists look at; I use them as a reflection of my own work to discover how I want my art to be perceived.

The context of my work is a mixture of how I perceive my subject, and the techniques I use to create the art. As I enjoy drawing and painting and find the process to be very therapeutic, I find it goes hand in hand with the subject, I tend to focus on the figure, majority the face, as I have said previously in other projects, I find the face intriguing, the structure and complexity of the face, is far more interesting then a bowl of fruit. I also wanted the subject of my work throughout the project to be in sync with the work I was trying to produce. As war is a part of human nature, the human subject is the best possible focus point, although I could have adapted any subject into the topic, as I have done with the none imagery collage of the speaker, I find trying to capture emotion and energy of the subject is far more successful.

I see my work being displayed in a public art gallery, war is a very popular subject for art, and it is displayed in most art galleries in one form or another, although my work doesn’t involve men swinging swords or piles of dead bodies, the nature of my work has a fine art appeal to it.

Once again I started my project with a series of collages as a point of research, I wasn’t sure which aspect of war I was intended to focus on, whether it be a particular war, person, or time period. After I had decided that my work would be based around the nature of war, using genocide as a reference point, I began to develop my work based around this subject and progress through the project onto my final piece with a clear idea of what I wanted.

I find my final outcome has proved to be very successful, the feedback I have received from peers, tutors and those whom viewed it at my exhibition were outstanding. The targets I had set for myself at the beginning of the project and throughout may have been shaken slightly be time scale and plausibility, but in general I think I have achieved the outcome I had in mind, I was very ambitious when it came to scale, and as I have done more then one final piece it became a matter of time to deal with.

Throughout my time at college, I have been trying to improve my management skills, time management particularly, and I have developed slightly, I am still improving, however, I feel as I have progressed, my art work has improved, as I look at the work I produced after my last FMP, I believe my skill as an artist have developed massively.

My idea of where I see myself working in the creative industries have changed time and time again, although I want to become a tattoo artist, I also see myself doing something more, but I don’t know what. I believe I will be able to answer those questions after I get my degree, as an artist, I’m still learning, and I think it would be naive to assume ii know what I want to be right now.
